KATHERINE NEEDLEMAN, OBOIST'S, TOP POSTS OF 2024
I was curious what my most popular posts from 2024 were. Facebook thought I was scrolling too quickly and so “blocked me from this feature temporarily,” so I only got back to February. I doubt any of them were in January, anyway. They judge posts based upon “reach” and “impressions” and “comments” and “likes.” I chose to go with “reach,” even though this number is always a bit below “impressions.” It’s funny that “likes” and “comments” are often not correlated with “reach.” But that makes sense since people tell me sometimes that they cannot interact publicly with my posts out of fear for professional retribution.
I’ve arranged these most popular posts from the one with the biggest reach (962,900) to the least, but the ones at the end of this list still have way more than my others. I don’t think this means they are necessarily my best posts of the year, just the most popular. My reach went way up after my second-most-reachy post, the one sharing and commenting on the arrival of Sammy Sussman’s “The Article” about Cara Kizer and Amanda Stewart. That was April 12. There were some other posts I had to delete so I didn’t count them here and don’t know how they stacked up.
Sammy Sussman is being sued, you know. You can read the court dockets for Liang Wang’s case against the New York Philharmonic here and against Sammy Sussman and Vulture here. The most recent thing there is a motion from Wang to seal certain evidence, including a police report. Well, that seems kind of dumb to me because anyone can obtain the Vail police report (I paid $30 and got it months ago.) I’m glad Sammy has the support of a major publication and all of that, but still, I worry. I know Sammy is very smart and that an article like his “The Article” has seen massive vetting by lawyers in advance of publication.
I’m also being sued. It’s stressful.
Without further ado, here are links to my “reachiest” posts of 2024:
