"It wasn’t the nicest response, I know, but you know what? I’m not the nicest. But despite not being the nicest, I am also nicer than the average man basking in his privilege on the board of an international instrument organization" I'm so glad you're not the nicest!

I’m outraged on your behalf when reading this conversation. How are those inflated idiot men even allowed to exist?! I also remember your post about the napkin ball throwing AH. Yes, there are different standards for different people for sure. I have been there too, as a woman in the music industry, and I recognise so much in your posts. Keep up the good work. Lots of love.

Please try not to berate yourself for your response. He was trying to leverage you as virtue signaling for his own little self, instead of doing any real work - and you have shit to do. No time for nonsense.

Do you ever wonder if you’re doing anything constructive? Maybe that’s just me lol. Let me just say that my tiny little musical organization is getting shook up, and your writing has a good deal to do with it. New board, new bylaws, new substitute list….. new players? We will see. Gender bias in jazz is out of control cuckoo. I’d really like to push back for a change before I’m worm food. So thanks. 🙏

In music and in life. I recently had interactions on a — wait for it — mountain rescue team Facebook page from the Lake District UK, where a party of two women in dire straights was described completely differently from the stranded parties of males. (Generally those males are older, underprepared, and out in weather waaaay beyond their current capabilities — does that hubris remind you of any BFM?) These women should have been lauded — and if male, would have been — but were vilified instead. Even my comment pointing that out was attacked, two-thirds by women (well, female names), and I had to repeatedly reply that my comment should stand, as all other commenters had been allowed to do. My original comment received over a dozen Likes, so that helped. So simply interacting in the world is a verrrrry different experience when we’re female. Sigh.

This man is pursuing a doctorate and he doesn’t understand that you don’t capitalize words in the middle of sentences to emphasize them? That was painful to read. And I just have a lowly master’s degree, and but a lowly woman brain. {eye roll}

I came across this on FB and my only contribution here is to say, “Fuck these boys up, Katherine.”
