Saariaho is also the first woman to have had two operas performed at the Met, when "Innocence" got there in April. I am hoping that Gabriela Lena Frank and Missy Mazzoli, both of whom have operas there this year, will have second, third, fourth operas at the Met.

Here’s what I can contribute : a practical, easy to use website I recently published online.

It includes women, Black, Hispanic, South American and other overlooked classical music composers, mostly from previous centuries.

http://overlookedclassicalmusic.org

The repertoire listed was culled from over 40 years' worth of diligently researched, easy to find lists (both massive and specialized), then re-arranged into 15 or more practical, straightforward groupings of repertoire (symphonic; chamber, etc). I then added links to online listening sites and scores. Contemporay pieces are mostly exluded, as they are known about and played. I have added additional works, and continue to do so. Original sources are fully credited.

Getting this repertoire programmed is an entirely separate endeavor : Please help as you can

by suggesting to your local symphonies, chamber groups, etc.

I would love any feedback !

Your latter statements remind me of “A Room of One’s Own”.

I want you to pick apart the Rex Reed obit, in the NYT today. Virulent sexist.
